Do you want to achieve glowing skin without having to rely on harsh skincare products or expensive treatments? If so, then you're in luck because there are many holistic approaches that you can try to attain that fresh, radiant, and glowing skin you’ve always wanted. From what you consume, to natural products, to your daily routine, here are a few tips and tricks to help you achieve a healthy skin that radiates from within.

I have been pretty obsessive with my skincare routine since I was about 15, and I try to keep my products and my approach as natural as possible. So trust me when I say: I've tried just about every natural product, nutrition regimen, and holistic remedy under the sun and these are the things that work for me!

1. Nutrition is Key For Glowing Skin

The first step towards healthier and glowing skin is to focus on eating a balanced diet. This means steering clear of highly processed foods, sugar, and unhealthy fats, and instead consuming nutrient-dense foods like fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and lean proteins. A diet rich in antioxidants helps prevent free radical damage, strengthens the skin barrier, and improves skin texture.

Some examples of foods that promote skin health include:

  • Avocado: Packed with healthy fats and vitamins C and E, avocado helps soothe and nourish dry and flaky skin.

  • Berries: Blueberries, raspberries, and strawberries are all rich in antioxidants that help decrease inflammation and oxidative damage which can cause premature aging of the skin.

  • Leafy Greens: Spinach, kale, and other greens are high in vitamin A, which helps restore the skin's moisture levels and boost it's elasticity.

2. Stay Hydrated

Bottle of water

Drinking enough water helps keep the skin hydrated, making it look plumper and brighter. Hydrated skin also helps reduce wrinkles and minimizes the appearance of fine lines. Aim for at least eight glasses of water every day, and more if you've been exercising or sweating a lot (I personally try to get a gallon/day).

Enhance your hydration by adding electrolytes and/or minerals to your water, and also try to eat more hydrating foods like watermelon, cucumber, and (drink) coconut water.

3. Hyaluronic Acid

In addition to food/hydration, there's a few natural, topical products I highly recommend for healthy, glowing skin- one of those is Hyaluronic Acid. I wish I had discovered Hyaluronic Acid sooner!! Hyaluronic Acid is one of the most heavily researched substances in medicine. It occurs naturally in the human body and is described as "nature's moisturizer" because it is one of the most hydrophilic (water-loving) molecules in nature. I use pure Hyaluronic Acid serum from Hyalogic -they have a short ingredients list and it's also not crazy expensive like most skincare products out there! (psssttt: get 20% off with code HALEY20). I've been using their products for 3 months now and my skin has a gorgeous, dewy glow that I always get compliments on! (Don't take my word for it- read all of their other customer reviews on their product pages or check out all of their awards). I am also obsessed with their Facial Scrub that has HA in it- I've struggled to find a face scrub that is gentle enough for my sensitive skin, yet effective and this one hits the mark for me.

4. Get Enough Sleep

Your skin might be telling you that you are not getting enough sleep as well. Lack of sleep can result in dull, tired-looking skin, and persistent dark circles under your eyes. Studies have shown that getting enough sleep helps reduce inflammation, which is associated with a wide range of skin problems, including sensitivity, puffiness, and rosacea.

5. Try Facial Acupuncture

Facial acupuncture is a holistic treatment that provides various benefits for the skin, including:

  • Reduces fine lines and wrinkles

  • Stimulates facial muscles and increases blood circulation

  • Boosts collagen production, improving skin elasticity

Acupuncture involves inserting tiny needles into specific points on the face to stimulate circulation, increase blood flow, and promote the production of collagen. The procedure is relatively painless, and the results can be seen even after just one session. 6. Improve Hormonal Health + Gut Health

Beautiful skin starts from within! If you are seeing a lot of breakouts, especially around the jawline or cheeks, it could be something hormonal. Check out my blog post, Natural Remedies for Hormonal Acne, for more tips on this. If you struggle with rosacea, psoriasis, or eczema, you can start by focusing on your gut health. Achieving healthy and radiant skin shouldn't involve relying on tons of abrasive skincare products, but instead, embracing more holistic approaches. Paying comprehensive attention to your skin's needs and habits such as a balanced diet, good sleep, staying hydrated, trying facial acupuncture, and natural yet effective products like Hyaluronic Acid is a great starting point towards glowing skin. Try to incorporate these tips into your daily routine and notice the results of having healthy and happy skin. Don't forget that healthy-looking skin is a reflection of overall well-being, so it's not only about appearance but a healthier lifestyle holistically.
